About ExPharm
ExPharm is a digital pharmacology simulation platform developed to support practical and experimental pharmacology education through computer-based simulation.
The idea behind ExPharm began with a simple educational goal: to provide students and educators with a structured way to understand pharmacological experiments, observe drug responses, and learn experimental procedures using computer-based simulations.
From its early development as desktop-based software to modern web-based simulation, ExPharm has been shaped by decades of experience in pharmacology education and technology.
Today, ExPharm provides a digital environment where pharmacy students and faculty can engage with simulated pharmacology experiments as part of practical learning and assessment.
A History of Innovation in Pharmacology Education
The development of ExPharm began in the late 1980s, when computer-based simulations were being explored as a way to support pharmacology education.
The early ExPharm software was developed using GW-BASIC to simulate pharmacological experiments. It was subsequently adapted to newer technologies, moving through QuickBasic and Visual Basic as computing platforms evolved.
Over the years, the work expanded beyond standalone software and educational resources to web-based pharmacology simulation.
ExPharm Journey
Began creating computer-simulated animal experiments. Developed a software package named ExPharm in GW-BASIC — the first digital step into pharmacology education.
Ported the ExPharm software from GW-BASIC to QuickBasic, improving performance and accessibility for early adopters.
Ported ExPharm to Visual BASIC for Windows and made it available for free distribution through website and CDs for a nominal fee — reaching a wider audience than ever before.
IndPharNet launched as a resource for Indian pharmacologists, providing software, documents, and teaching materials for free use in medical education.
A web-based, online version of animal simulation software launched and became widely popular among pharmacology & pharmacy faculty and undergraduate medical and pharmacy students across India.
ExPharm continues as a digital platform for experimental pharmacology education, providing pharmacy students and faculty with virtual experiments, guided learning, practice, quizzes, and structured assessments — making practical pharmacology more accessible beyond the traditional laboratory.
